Calendar Event Description
In Finland, All Saint's Day is celebrated at the turn of October-November. All Saint's Day traditionally has two meanings; to honour all saints and to remember those passed over, and is originally brought together from two successive celebrations.

In Finland All Saint's Day is a devout and quiet celebration. People bring flowers and candles to graveyards, to remember those deceased, and attend church services. Many churches officiate at the service to honour parishioners who have passed away in the course of the year.

In Finland there is not a tradition for children going door-to-door for tricks or treats on All Hallows Eve, such as Halloween in the United States (The closest tradition to Halloween in Finland is when children dress up like witches on Palm Sunday, and go from door-to-door collecting sweets). In the past few years shops have started to offer different things related to Halloween and people are beginning to arrange Halloween parties.

Finland Public Transportation Status
Please be aware that the local and regional busses will be running "irregular" timetables on All Saint's Day. Public transport services in the Helsinki Metropolitan area will operate on Sunday timetables and Night buses will operate according to the extended night service timetables.

In the Helsinki area you can get information on local and regional routes, timetables and tickets from the Traffic information telephone number 0100-111 (€ 0,41/call + local call charge).

You can also use the YTV Public Transport Journey Planner, to check the available routes and transportation on the specific days and times. The Journey Planner can be found from the following URL: http://aikataulut.ytv.fi/reittiopas/en/

The new Finland Journey Planner launched by the Finnish Public Transport system can also be used to plan your journey.

"Journey.fi allows you to search for the best public transport connections between selected locations. At the moment the service provides door-to-door information on the following: all trains and all express buses in the Helsinki metropolitan area, and local traffic in Joensuu, Kuopio, Lappeenranta, Mikkeli and Tampere. In the future, more cities will be added to the service."

The Finland Journey Planner can be found at the following URL: http://www.journey.fi/
