Remembrance Day has been celebrated on the 3rd Sunday of May since 1940, when Mannerheim gave the order to hold a memorial ceremony for Finnish soldiers who had lost their lives during the 1st and the 2nd World War. In Finland Remembrance Day has been an official flag-raising day since 1977.
