St. Maria's Day celebrates the day when God's Angel appeared to Maria (Mary) and let her know about the birth of Jesus. St. Maria's Day is the last church holiday, of what was originally six separate church holidays honouring St. Maria, still existing in the Lutheran church. This day has been one of the oldest and most important church holidays in Northern Europe.
